Wine by the glass

Hi teachers~

I have come across this expression

"Do you have wine by the glass?"

I just assumed that I ask this question because I don't want the whole bottle,

but an article said wine by the glass is usually expensive.

I am confused.

So what does this question mean?

Thank you in advance.
