Winded the time

The dialogue taken from an old movie, (USA 1948) is:

Elliott: Tom has probably seen you through this window, have you followed or something.
Jean: But he winded the time.
Elliot: I'm not too sure about that.

Does "winded the time" mean that Tom didn't have enough time to have her followed?

I am not sure, fivejedjon.
I think it sounds more like "he wounded the time", but this doesn't make sense at all, does it?
