wind up

Do you think this is a proper verb for this sentence? I think it is good, but odd. Using passive verb for student in here? I would say it could describe progress of a course, which I think it should use future or present tense.
Please correct me. Emotion: smile
"After three months of homework assignments, the students were wound up completing their course."

Hi, Passive voice is not correct here. They wound up completing it. But I would say either 'They wound up the course' or 'They completed the course'.

But I would say either 'They wound up the course' or 'They completed the course'. Not both
