Will/would

Hi dear teachers,

Would you please tell me which one to use? why?

I'm not going to study in this dark room, because by doing so I will/would strain my eyes.

Thanks very much in advance.

Thanks, but Would somebody explain exactly why?

Because you say you aren't going to do it, the verb is in the conditional tense, meaning it isn't actually going to happen in the future. IF you did study in the dark, you WOULD strain your eyes.

If you were saying, "I am going to study in the dark even though I will strain my eyes," you would use will. But, you are saying you aren't going to do it so the verb is in the conditional ten

By changing the sentence a little, either "will" or "would" can be used.

"I'm not going to study in this dark room; because, by doing so, I will strain my eyes."

(Please take note of your two comma faults.)

or...

I'm not going to study in this dark room; because, doing so will strain my eyes.

I'm not going to study in this dark room; because, doing so
