Will/might as well

I would like to know the difference between "1" and "2".

1. I'll drop you at the station, as I'm going in that direction.
2. I might as well drop you at the station, as I'm going in that direction.

They pretty much have the exact same meaning. Option 2 in my opinion sounds friendlier. When you say "I might as well" you are saying something like "well, there's no reason not to drop you off at the station" or otherwise indicating that it's really no problem at all to drop the other person off on the way.
