Will you excuse me?

Hi

Will or would?

(Any other suggestion about the rest of the dialogue is welcome.)

(A is talking to B in a party when someone calls A on his cell phone)

A- So how is everything?
B - Everything's fine. What about Rose? Didn't she come with you?

(A's phone starts ringing)

A - Oh..will you excuse me for a minute? I'll catch up with you later.
A - Oh..would you excuse me for a minute? I'll catch up with you later.

B - Sure. Take your time.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks, Jed.

So is it okay to call will and/or would verbs instead of helping verbs? Also, are will and would interchangeable here too?

Will you please get the phone?
Would you please get the phone?

Will you please leave the door open?
'Would you please leave the door open?

You can call them helping verbs, modals, modal verbs, auxiliaries, auxiliary verbs, modal auxiliary verbs or modal auxiliary verbs Whatever you call them, they are verbs.

In most requests you can use either will or would . There is little significant difference in meaning, though would, being distanced in directness, is considered more polite than will.
