Will you check my English? (Aug. 16)

Hello. I wrote two dialogues. Will you correct them?

No. 1

M: Did you see that play by Ichiro?

F: Yes, it was amazing! He threw the ball all the way to the catcher

without bouncing it. It is called a laser beam.

M: It sure is. He's absolutely a genius.

No. 2

M: Pardon me. I'm here to read a gas meter.

F: Yes. The meter's just inside the gate. I'll put [ let ] my dog in the

house, so please wait ( for ) a moment.

M: I'd appreciate that. Dogs aren't my thing. (Q. "my things"?)

Thank you. kenta

Excellent work! Just two minor observations: (l) "It's" would be more idiomatic than "It is" in conversation and (2) Instead of "Yes," native speakers might say "Fine" or "OK." ("Dogs aren't my thing" is perfect, but I cannot do a good job in explaining why; hopefully, another poster will do so.) Sincerely, James

One other thing: do you mean to say 'He is absolutely a genius' or 'He is an absolute genius'? The former means that the fact that he is a genius is undisputable, while the latter means that he is a genius without limits, a complete, perfect genius -- I'm not very good at explaining this, sorry.

Thank you, both. Your comments are very helpful. I studied a lot from you.
