Will throw vs would throw

Romanian directors pomised they .............. a big party in case they win a prize at the Cannes Film Festival again this year.

a. will throw; b. throw ; c. would throw; d. threw.

Is it a conditional "in case"="if"? What should I use?

"in case" is used when we do something in anticipation of a possible future event. In other words, the directors will throw a party before they find out whether they have won. I very much doubt that is the intended meaning.

  • Probably what is meant is this: Romanian directors promised (that) they will throw a big party if they win a prize at the Cannes Film Festival again this year.
