Will the removal of a word mean that the punctuation has to change?

In this instance, would the removal of the word "clearly" mean that I'd have to change the punctuation of this sentence?

In response, the larger man laughed as he pulled out a knife, clearly driven to madness by his own desperation.

Thanks in advance!
