Will shall

Could anybody tell me how to differentiate these two words?

Nowadays, 'will' and 'shall' are used interchangeably.

In the U.S., "shall" really is not used at all (except when quoting General Douglas MacArthur's famous "I shall return"). Ir would sound artificial and pretentious to an American ear.
