Will rise, will have risen or will be risen

1. It is estimated that the world population will be risen to 9.7 billion by the year 2050.

2. It is estimated that the world population will have risen to 9.7 billion by the year 2050.

3. It is estimated that the world population will rise to 9.7 billion by the year 2050.

What is the correct sentence?

I don't know how people predict the population growth. It is an accepted fact that there will be 9.7 billion people on earth by 2050.

We have 6.7 billion people on earth today.

Wrong, because rise is an intransitive verb and thus cannot be used in the passive voice (be + past

Cool Breeze says even the 3rd one is fine.

The population increase borders a natural process.
So is it fine to say 'will rise to' ?

I will be 100 in 2010.
This is fine as I am am 99 today.

Hello Rotter,

Yes, your third sentence is also fine.

1. X will have happened by 2090.

2. X will happen by 2090.

Here, #1 presents X from an imaginary point beyond 2010 (i.e. it is in the past, at that point).

#2 presents X from the moment of speaking (i.e. it is in the future, at that point).

All the best,

I am very surprised to learn 'will be risen' , 'will have risen and 'will rise' are all correct.

If you are 99 this year, you will be 100 next year.
No doubt about it.

For me, population rise is a kind of a natural process where you can't set an exact figure.

Who in this thread said that 'will be risen' is correct? I've read the thread several times, and I don't see it.

Mr. Pedantic was referring to #1 within his own post, not the first example in your post! See the sentences he wrote there with 1 and 2? These correspond to yournumbers 2 and 3!

Simply: No passive construct for any of your "population" sentences.Emotion: smile
