Will or Would?

i really don't know why but that "will" over there looks fishy.

Costa sat out the match in Michigan after suffering a back injury, which is threatening to rule him out of the season opener against West Ham on Aug. 15. Whether he "Will" still be a Chelsea player by then, though, is now open to some debate.

should there be a 'WOULD" instead?
