Will or Would?

I've got two questions:

The first is a general question - how do I know when to use "will" and when to use "would"?

The second, a more specific question - someone told me she's planing to visit my home town someday, what's the correct way to phrase my reply? "Well, when you do, give me a call, I'll be glad to give you a tour! " or "Well, when you do, give me a call, I'd be glad to give you a tour! "

Thank you.

Hello there Anonymous, Just like my online English tutor, Liat, explained to me once you--You use will when you refer to real situations that can happen, and you use would when you refer to situations that are far-fetched(that most likely won't happen). g 1 I would depart for France if I had more money(=I don't have more money/sufficient money, so I can't go there). g 2 I will depart for France tomorrow(=I'm going to depart for france tomorrow, because I have made all the arrangements).

For your second question, either is okay. The meaning is exactly the same to an English speaker's ears.

There are many, many uses of each of these words, so the question is really too big to answer in a few paragraphs here.

One thing that might help, though, is that in a context of past tense, only would can be used, not will. The underlined verbs show where the indicator of past tense is l
