will or future perfect

Hello. I want to combine these sentences. should I use will or the future perfect? The bold words are written in my book.

1- The whole family will stay up talking. Then the clock will strike midnight.
The whole family will stay/have stayed up talking until the clock strikes midnight.

2- They'll all feel very tired. Then they will go to bed.
By the time they go to bed, they will all feel/have felt very tired.

The whole family will stay up talking until the clock strikes midnight.

They will all go to bed when they feel very tired.

This is an exercise in my book. It says: Combine these sentences. Use the simple present and future forms (will/be going to).
I need to start the second sentence with 'By the time'. Is this correct?
