Will or are in sentence

Are both possible? What is the difference?

We are meeting tomorrow at 6pm.
We will meet tomorrow at 6 pm.

Thank you. Does the same apply to:

When will you come home?
When are you coming back home?

I think the mean quite the same, but please confirm.

Also, is it correct to use 'to' after 'apply' above, or should it be 'apply for'?

Essentially, if two structures are equivalent in one case, they are in the next case. Of course, some may find that they would use one or the other in a specific situation, but that doesn't really change the relative meaning.
