Will modern technology, such as the internet ever replace the book or the written word as the main source of information?
Nowadays it is hard to imagine a modern society without Internet and technologies and even harder to imagine a person who has to find an information in short period of time using internet neither than a book or encyclopedia. Modern technologies seem to have replaced centuries-old source of information. Despite its easiness in use and great possibilities, Internet has its own disadvantages as well, making us think if it is going to absorb all books' knowledge and become the only method of getting information.
The first and the major disadvantage is that, in contrast to books, electronic devices, which are necessary for internet access, harm users' health. They affect nerve system, cause red eyes effect and vision problems. As, for instance, education system nowadays implies students to spend a lot of time in front of computers' monitors, the health problems are barely possible to prevent. The second disadvantage of non-book information source is that with them people are depended on battery and sometimes they don't have access to electricity and therefore can't use their devices. On the other hand, traditional books are made from wood, which leads to increasing number of deforestation and spoils the environment. In addition, real books are heavier while e-books can store thousand of books and weight less at the same time. It is also easier to type the thing you want to find and get the information straightaway than to go to a library and scan it.
In my opinion, although real books are not harmful and does not need to be recharged, modern technologies are on the threshold of becoming the one and only source of information leaving traditional books behind.
