This is the better choice between the two: "In short, you will likely never hear the confirmation of Osama's death."

I think HT's choice of the two is correct. However, "you likely will never hear..." sounds even better to me. [Rationale: 'likely' modifies neither 'hear' nor 'will'. Consider this way of expressing the sentence: It is likely that you will never hear...]
