Will learning Latin help with English grammar/syntax?

If I want to improve my grammar and syntax structures, will reading this book help? I thought it would be a good start because of the customer reviews and the book descriptions.

I was told that if I learned a little Latin, I should be able to get the bigger picture of how and why certain rules apply to English.

English grammar is much more closely related to (Old) German than Latin. A lot of English vocabulary has come from Latin or the "Romance" languages that developed from Latin - French, Spanish, Italian. Many root words, prefixes and suffixes are from Latin.
