Will happen VS. happens

What will happen if I take her VS. What happens if I take her.

I have known "will" should be put all the time but I have found "What happens if I take her". Is there a reason or meaning difference between the two sentences?

Thank you as always and have a good day.

There is no difference in meaning; the choice just depends on the speaker's subconscious viewpoint: is he imagining the future or is he imagining himself in the future?
