Why"did" is used here?

Dear teachers,
I don't understand why "DID" is used in the following , So could you possibly help me understand it?:

Gaza strip did not just supply Hamaswith arms, but brought in fuel, flour and baby-milk.

If I were asked to write, I would write:
Gaza strip not just/only supplied Hamas with arms, but brought in fuel, flour and baby-milk.

I'm confused now.

Thank you in advance

Hi van, I think "not only - - - but also" is a special case. " With "just" I don't believe we get the same pass, although you hear people do it. Normally, the helping verb "to do" is needed in negative statements and in questions, and may be optionally used for emphasis in positive statements.

Hi, I think the sentence structure with what I think is an auxiliary verb "did" was used for emphasis.

Look at this:

Jim did not just gave money to help, but also provided housing to them.

Gaza strip not just/ only supplied Hamas with arms, but brought in fuel, flour and baby-milk.

You can use that structure with only, but not with just.

These are OK:

Hi,
I think my correctional effort is wrong in that I used 'just' instead of 'only':
I wrote this as an example sentence in my response:

Jim did not just gave money to help, but also provided housing to them.

I think it should be:

Jim did not only gave money to help, but also provided housing to them.

I think this sentence with the word '

Anonymous Jim did not just gave money to help, but also provided housing to them.
I must respectfully disagree. "Jim just gave money to help" is simple past. If you put the "did" into the positive sentence for emphasis (he didn't have ulterior motives - he was being altruistic) it goes: "Jim did just give the money to

Hi. Avangi. I think you are right. I think this sentence pattern is correct.

Not only did he give money, he provided housing too.
