Why zero article?

Hello, everybody.

"Conflict" is a contable noun, especially when it is a certain conflict, or a conflict of some kind. That's why I cannot understand the omission of the indifite article in the sentence below:

«A good play always involves conflict of some kind»

I'd undoubtedly use "a conflict" instead...

Thanks for help in advance.

As there is no partitive case in English, it is sometimes possible to achieve a similar effect by omitting the article. The reader gets the impression that an entire conflict isn't necessarily needed. CB
