Hello,
What is the difference between the meanings of the examples below? (Not sure if the context affects the meanings, but for example, I am cheering up someone who's sad.)
Example 1:
a) Why would you say that?
b) Why do you say that?
Example 2:


a) Why would they hate you?
b) Why do they hate you?
Example 3:


a) Why would you think like that?
b) Why do you think like that?

Thank you, but the examples above are all unconditional. That's why I don't get the difference between the "would" sentences and the "do" sentences.
In example 1, my friend already said something.
In example 2, my friend believes they hate her.
In example 3, I am talking about the way my friend thinks.

"Would" is rhetorical, expecting the answer to be different, or being very surprised by the statement.
