Why " would " is used here?

Hello

I have a lot of problems with the word would for example why is it used in this sentence? what does it mean? why we can't say " we commonly say or hear" ?

Take for example the comment, " Traffic was really annoying today." It sounds like something we would commonly say or hear.

Thanks

It's an implied conditional. Think of it this way. It sounds like something we " would " commonly say or hear (if we were talking about traffic).

Sahbawhy we can't say " we commonly say or hear" ?
Sure, we can say that.

"would", as used in your sentence, suggests that "we would commonly say or hear that (if we were in a situation to say or hear that). "would" can often be interpreted by using an additional if-clause (which is usually left out in examples like yours)
