Why / Why not

A: I can't eat anything after 9.
B: Why? Does it upset your stomach?

Is Why? correct? How about "Why not?"

Both are fine.

"Why?" will be understood as "Why is that?" and "Why not?" will be understood as "Why can you not (eat)?"
