Why Weimaraner Bosco here?

Hello. I need a help to understand the context or meaning of this paragraph. It's a story written by Sanjay Gupta, CNN chief medical correspondent.

Not all my stories have been so dramatic, but when it's appropriate-by which I mean helpful and informative-I include myself in my reporting. For instance, I often stress the importance of exercise, and I practice what I preach!(Does it relate to the following sentence?) My Weimaraner Bosco is often seen on my long runs for exercise segments.(What does this mean?) Or I've discussed the value of prayer in medical emergencies.

Looking forward to hearing from somebody!

A segment is a part of the whole length.
Some runners exercise in segments - they run very fast for a while, then they run slowly, then they run fast again. The fast segments make their muscles strong; the slow segments are good for endurance and for exercising the heart.

Thanks a lot! One last question!

He wrote that "I include myself in my reporting." The following sentence begins with "For instance."

It seems to me that the first sentence is about broadcasting and the next one is about his exercies. So how do those two sentences relate each other?
