Good evening everyone,
My name is Tham.
It's a great pleasure to be here.
I'm going to start my talk with this picture of a beautiful cow.
According to a recent study by the World Health Organization, more than 70 billion animals are farmed for food each year.
That's our number. 70 billion.
We are told that the more meat we eat, the healthier we will be.
In fact, we have to face with the current health crisis. Because of overconsumption of animals, along with our low consumption of fruits and vegetables.
So I'm here I want to share with you about why we should Eat Less Meat.
My presentation will be divided into two parts.
Firstly, why eating meat is damaging to our health
And, secondly, why eating meat is unethical.
So, let's get into the first part.
Why eating meat is unhealthy.
According to a new report by the FDA, hormones and approximately 80 percent of all antibiotics are used to farm animals to promote faster growth.
Incredible.
And with our hyper-consumption of those animals are the source of many diseases: breast cancer, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes or food poisoning and that's more. ... as well as dementia (dementia is a disease that results in the gradual loss of mental abilities, such as the ability to think, reason, and remember things) or cognitive decline (cognitive decline is, simply, when the brain stops working as well as it used to). So, it Increases our Risk of Death.
That's the general picture of the risk of eating meat.
Let me move on to the second part, why eating meat is unethical.
Animals are intelligent creatures. Everyone knows how our pets at home can learn and communicate with us in their own way, because they have the mental capacity to do so. Cows, pigs and chickens are no different. Even they are fully aware of when they are being slaughtered.
That's all I have to say about the humanity aspect.
I hope that these ideas in some way have changed the way you think about eating meat.
We need to start acting. And this is not only an issue of social justice but it's also one of global survival.
Nowadays, some people choose a plant-based diet for health reasons, while others do so with more ethical concerns in mind. If you think it difficult to stop eating meat you can gradually reduce the amount of meat in your meal. And that happens to be quite easy by eating less meat, more plant. It's a simple formula.
