WHY vs HOW Help please

Could someone help me with this?

  • There is never any suspense in TV shows since you know the main character isn't going to die when he's about to die in episode 10 for instance since you as the audience know that the charcter plays in more episodes than just 10. Thats why/how you know.
Can someone correct the sentence if it needs correcting.

Would it be "That's how you know he's not going to die/that's why you know he's not going to die"

You would say how, but why is ok, too. I'm not sure what the difference is. If anyone has any other examples where why and how are interchangeable, that would help.
