Why 'used to'? think about it?

take the sentence 'i used to be a communist'.
it means that person had once been a communist.
but, what does it mean that one 'used' to be something.

if you were something, you were something. what did you 'use' by being something?

Ah, language works in mysterious ways. Some people type without using capital letters. Weird. Wild! Kinda funny, even.

It's even deeper than that! Ponder this sentence:
"I'm used to be a communist".

Or rather "I'm used to being a communist".
But it does get worse, as I no longer find my political stance familiar:-

Tsk, tsk, tsk. You've got your semiotics in

all my "Analysis etc."

It was an illustration of usage as in "I used to have a sense of humour".

Yes, and I was illustrating capitalization; not that of money, of course. Strangely, I was once living in a country controlled by Communists. I didn't have The Card, though.

You are forgiven. 90% didn't either, if I can believe what I have read. Much like in Ancient Sparta.
