The collection and maintenance of data is an integral part of an efficient and effective school system because data collection affords a school system a means by which appropriate placement and progression or lack thereof may be monitored. Data collection also offers a means by which achievements may be measured; in order to identify areas of needed improvement among students and schools within the system. Data maintenance is increasingly more important as data is shared between school systems and outside agencies which allows critical decisions to be made in real-time. Efficient maintenance allows for the tracking of achievement among, teachers, students (of various demographics), education leaders, and schools systems.
