Why there's no prepositions here?

Hi,

Would you rephrase the underlined part? Also would you explain why the sentence is grammatically correct without any conjunction or prepositions between Our bottles drained and Patrick? I don't know how I should read it.

Our bottles drained, Patrick would carry us back to what everyone but Lyle agreed was the center of the universe.

Thank you,

M

Structures like our bottles drained is sometimes called a "small clause". Meaning: When our bottles were drained ~ When we had finished drinking.
