Why the writer didnt use past participle in the first part of the sentence?

If I could have thought about anything ( if i had thought about...?), I would have opened those doors and stopped it.

Why didn't the writer use the past participle... That's impossible for us to know as the sentence wasn't written by a proficient English speaker. Moreover, thought is a past participle, so the writer has used one.
