Why 'the' used?

I am 'the' resurrection and 'the' life ... (John 11:25) (In vulgate, 'Ego sum resurrectio et vita...')From the context, It is clear that Jesus didn't refer to a specific resurrection and a specific life. Why are the two 'the's used?

Hi, I suppose the translator saw them as specific references. Don't read too much into the Latin. Latin doesn't have articles.

Don't read too much into the Latin. Latin doesn't have articles.

Clives' response is fine.
I attended a memorial service just last weekend and noticed that "the" had been eliminated in both cases in the version used.
