Why the following sentences are considered wrong?

I was told the following sentences are wrong. Why?

1) I think the reason why he failed in the exam was becasue he didn't bother to study.

2) If you can't contact him by phone, try leaving a message.

3) There are certainly less accidents now that the wearing of seatbelts is complusory.

4) He rather arrogantly inferred that he was the most intelligent student in the co;;ege.

5) I totally disapprovbe of you staying out after midnight on weekdays.

  • 4) He rather arrogantly inferred (depending on your meaning, probably you should say 'implied' instead of 'inferred') that he was the most intelligent student in ('at' would be better) the co ll ege.
  • 5) I totally disapprove of you (for very formal grammar, say 'your' instead of 'you') staying out after midnight on weekdays.
