Why "stand before me"?

Every episode of American's Next Top Model,

those judges have to eliminate a girl;

Tyra always says: "two beautiful girls stand before me"

I'm curious, why doesn't she say "stand in front of me "?

What's the difference?

Very little difference. However, 'in front of me' could indicate that all are facing the same direction. With 'before me' it is clear that the girls are facing the judges.
