We may find many children suffering the comparison put on them with their peers from their well-meaning parents and teachers. Adults compare themselves with their colleagues since they have to get passion and motivation which are regarded as necessary to their jobs. In time they become prone to the comparison, consciously or subconsciously. Actually it’s never something good. Too much pressure will be brought to us with such comparison. We can hardly bear the tense in addition to that our daily work has caused. After comparing ourselves with our competitors and thinking of beating them, we may inevitably feel haggard, stifled, sensitive, and depressed, which will results in many physical and psychological problems affecting our normal life. We may take lifetime to conquer them or they will never be cured. We will also lose heart as the result of excessive comparison once we find ourselves inferior to the people we are compared with. Subsequently the shadow of lacking self-confidence will be cast on our hearts. We may be irremediably wounded, which is certain to hinder our future work and further development. We may find the loss overweighs the gain although the comparison is often originated from some good intention. Then what can we do with such weak minds? Comparison may also cause envy and vanity. Our values and attitudes toward life may be distorted due to the comparison we have brought into our own world, which is likely to become a potential hazard to both ourselves and to our society. Comparison may bring the atmosphere of hostility to our studying or working environment. Excessive comparison will impel us to view everyone surrounding us as our rivals some of which are likely to be the imagined rivals. Under such circumstances, it is impossible to fulfill the team work. Comparison will lead to dozens of problems. It will cause too much pressure, lack of confidence, distorted values and attitudes toward life, and animosity between us and our coworkers. In view of these vicious influences, we should not compare ourselves with others.
