Why present simple used for giving instructions

"So what you do is … you read the questions first and then you write down your answers in the box. You don’t write on the question paper."
My question is that why present simple used here for giving instructions before a test? It should be in the future tense such as "you'll read the questions first........". Please get me clear.I am confused.
