why not simple past

0 Hello!02br
02br
001. 01i00Jean 01i00______ (visit) Gracelands, the house where Elvis ______02i00 (suffer) his fatal heart attack, twice in the past few years. 02br
02br
02i
00I don't know why but tke answer key gives "01font00has visited00" while I would say "visited" since there is "in the past few years", a closed period that belongs to the past... 02br
02br
002. 01i00... and during the past year over 100,000 people 01i00_____02i00 (turn up) to watch the proceedings.02br
02br
02i
00Same thing in this one... the key says "01font00have turned up00" and I have not a slightest idea why not "turned up"02br
02br
00Thanks!02br

00and could I say "have been visiting" ? and "have been turning up" ?02br
02br
00sounds odd to me since it doesn't indicate a finished or completed action but assuming that they continue to visit those places... hmm... <doing some thinking> What's your opinion on that?0-

0 01i00*has been visiting ... twice 02i00will never do!02br
00 To me, 01i00have been turning up02i00 suggests repeatedly, and I don't believe that that is plausible in this context.02br
