Why not "a mantle illness " in this sentence?

Some people have a predisposition to mantle illness.

Why not A mental illness in the sentense above as we are using singuar ILLNESS and not ILLNESSES?

Because it is being used in a non-count way. Mental illness is a general category consisting of many illnesses which can be named - eg schizophrenia, many different sorts of phobias, Alzheimer's, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorders
