Why "more of" rather than "more"

I think A is correct, by experience.

A. I need more of her advice.

B. I need more her advice.(Sounds weird)

And C is correct, rather than D, by experience again.

C. You can get more advice there

D. You can get more of advice there. (Obviously wrong)

However, I am unable to explain why we need "of" after more sometimes but not always. Anyone could explain?
