Why it has to be "{the" here?

0Hi,02br

00I have a sentence with a "something is the such thing" sentence and am wondering why it has be the "the" there and no other determiners. I have encountered a lot of this kind of sentences and sometimes it is not completely sure whether or not I should or should not place "the" there? Help. 02br

00 Roses are red,02br
00 violets are blue.02br
00 Sugar is sweet,02br
