Why is "why" an adverb?

I can see why "when", "how", and "where" are relative adverbs. They provide information about the time, location and manner in a sentence. But why is the word "why" also a relative adverb?

I heard that there are four types of adjuncts, adverbs of time, adverbs of place, adverbs of manner, and adverbs of degree. Which category does "why" belong to?

Thanks in advance
