Why is this answer wrong?

There was the task in my course book to complete the sentence.
'What was the last animal .......................... extinct'
So i gave the answer 'to have become' but the correct one, according to the key provided, should be 'to become'.
Why was my answer incorrect?

"When I met her again, 10 years after we had parted ways, she was disappointed. She was expecting me to have become more mature, more of a man, but she found me exactly the same person as before."
