why is sandwich countable

Hi,

I have been thinking that "sandwich" is more like cheese, uncountable, but now realized that it is actually more like pizza, countable.

So what exactly is a sandwich? To me, sandwiches vary in shape and size as well.

It's a single thing that you eat all of. You don't eat an entire cake, you don't eat an entire pizza. (If you get one of those little personal pizzas, you'd call that "a pizza" - I had a pizza for lunch.

It's a single thing that you eat all of. You don't eat an entire cake, you don't eat an entire pizza. (If you get one of those little personal pizzas, you'd call that "a pizza" - I had a pizza for lunch. If you had two slices of large pizza, you'd say "I had some pizza for lunch.")
