This is from a tv show: a police man is looking into the internet history of someone who was murdered a few days earlier and he says: "he has been researching the company". Why is present perfect used? Since the person who did the research is now dead, wouldn`t it be better to use past continuous "he was researching" or past perfect continuous "he had been researching"?
The policeman probably doesn't care about the nuances of grammar.
