Why is it said that the Earth is made

There is a documentary tv series with the title "How the Earth was made?" It is a geological series, without any religious thought. Nobody says in it that anything is made by God, or gods. It is about how the Earth evolved. So is this title is a joke?

No. We often use a passive construction when we do no wish to name the agent, when the agent is unknown, or when there may be no agent as such.
