Hi, why is it correct to say "next year" but not "the next year"? Both are correct, but wih different meanings, I'll visit you next year. If I say this now, it means the visit will be in 2011.

Both are correct, but wih different meanings,



I'll visit you next year. If I say this now, it means the visit will be in 2011.



I'll finish my studies in 2012. I'll visit you the next year. This means I'll visit you in 2013.



I would simply say
