Why is "go to swim" wrong and "going to swim" correct?

I go to swim everyday.

Why is this sentence wrong? Is it because of the infinitive to swim? But then how do you explain I am going to swim? Both have the infinitive to swim but the sentence with present progressive tense is the correct one.
