Why "is coming" instead of "will come" ?

Next Saturday John __________ (come) to visit his friends.

Why we should say "is coming" instead of "will come" ???

Hi, The Present Continuous is often used to state plans that have already been made. eg I am visiting China next year. This sounds like maybe I have already bought a plane ticket, booked a hotel, etc.

The Present Continuous is often used to state plans that have already been made.

eg I am visiting China next year. This sounds like maybe I have already bought a plane ticket, booked a hotel, etc.

"John is coming to visit next Saturday."

As clive stated, this plan sounds very definite, and there is little doubt that John will arrive.

"John will come visit next Saturday."

This has the same literal meaning, but it sounds to us like John doesn't have a very good plan, and you shouldn't count on him being there on time.
