Why I downgraded Windows xp from Windows vista

In the Windows world, Vista is the current rage. And you can define "Rage" in a couple of different ways, in this case. On one hand, rage can be defined as what is hip and new. On the other, "Rage" can be defined as what white hot hate you feel when it takes 5 boot-ups to get the proper screen resolution under Windows Vista.

So here's the deal. As I type this article on my Laptop, my desktop machine is in the process of downloading all the updates for Windows XP. Yes, Windows XP. I am in the process of downgradring (Or should I say upgrading) to Windows XP on my primary desktop. Now, in my case, this computer had two hard drives in it. So, I am keeping Vista intact while I am installing XP back to the second drive. If I need Vista for some reason, it's there. I don't like burning bridges.

I know this is technically OT, but ....
  • I've been using computers (programming) all my life (26 years of it at least). I use computers for everything; I need them to be fast + reliable.
  • I reluctantly bought my last computer with Vista on it - installed all my dev. programs - everything.
  • 2 months later, at great cost in time, I went back to XP.
