Why "elsewhere" is an adverb?

This is a sentence from Longman dictionary.

She is becoming famous in Australia and elsewhere.

I can't understand why "elsewhere" is called an adverb here. Could you explain the reason?

No, "Australia" is a noun. However, "in Australia" is adverbial.

By the way, just to be clear, the sentence is not short for "She is becoming famous in Australia and in elsewhere".
